Successes

We would like to see more investment and facilities put in place so that local people have the community asset they deserve.

We aim to represent the views of local residents and park users to Enfield Council (which owns and maintains the space) in order to maintain and improve the playing fields and park.

Successes

Mini Forests

In February 2023, we planted two areas of the Rec with several hundred whips - very small tree saplings. Around 130 of these are thriving at the south side of the Rec and about 90 on the east side. They are a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees. People of all ages and backgrounds from the local community joined in the planting days, supported by the Enfield Council Tree Officer and team.

Wildflowers and Spring bulbs

We have planted 3 areas of the Rec with wildflowers and spring bulbs. These are outside the flats by the Norfolk Avenue entrance, by the Devonshire Hill Lane entrance and a long the Northern side of the Rec near the car park (Tottenhall Rd entrance). At the latest bulb planting in the autumn of 2024, there were 21 local people involved.

Toilet block

We lobbied for and liaised with the local council to get the toilet block refurbished and reopened. A local artist group consulted with park users and came up with a preferred design for painting the block. The design reflects the fact that the Rec is very popular with local dog walkers! The toilet block is near the play park and open during park opening times and locked at night by the council park team.

Playground

We obtained funding for new playground equipment, which was installed in 2023 after consulting with local park users about what they would like to see. The playground is busy with families and young children after school, at the weekends and in the holidays. There are benches and picnic tables in the playground, a separate fenced area for basketball and goal shooting alongside and a small outdoor gym.

Hedge Planting

In 2025 we obtained funding from the Campaign for Rural England for planting whips for a mixed hedgerow alongside the eastern chain link fencing to enhance the view from the park, increase biodiversity and create a wildlife space. As well as adults from the community, children from the Teensy Wonders nursery lent a helping hand. The saplings are still very small but are mostly thriving and we are watching their growth with interest.
